btw I usually do gbp buildpackage -us -uc --git-pristine-tar --git-pristine-tar-commit

I'm not really sure if both options are necessary or not

or gbp export-orig ... && gbp pristine-tar commit ...

@evangelos.tzaras actually there's no reason why we wouldn't support --pristine-tar-commit for export-orig too:

so with that it's just:

gbp export-orig --pristine-tar-commit
