New message notification dot for messages you've already seen once

If I am on the screen for an individual conversation and either receive or send out a message to that person, then click the button to go back to the main menu, there will be a notification for a new message recieved even though I just saw it. To be clear, this isn't a push notification -- It's a blue dot with a 1 inside on the right side of the screen on the row with that conversation. The 1 will increment if there are more new messages in that conversation. Once you open that conversation again and back out to the main menu, the dot goes away as expected.

The expected behavior is that this dot would only appear for message received at a time when that conversation screen is not already open i.e. chatty is not open, is sitting on the main menu, or is open on a separate conversation. I would also expect the dot and counter to not include outgoing messages.

This is chatty 0.3.4-1 on a pinephone with Arch Linux ARM. So it could be a misconfiguration not present on Librem 5.
