LGTM @heather.ellsworth what's the search engine list we want? Do we want to sync with pureos @jeremiah.foster?
There are free as in code is free (liberal or copyleft) licensed, and there is and there is free as in independent from unethical organizations.
DuckDuckGo is not freely licensed code nor is it free from ties to unethical organizations, nor is it free from central control, nor is it free from filter-bubbling, nor is it free from commercial interests. It is however free from spying.
Please see https://tracker.pureos.net/T673 for more information, and contribute to the discussion there!

@heather.ellsworth The only respectful and efficient ones I know are DDG and Qwant (which I included as a second choice in that MR), though that's only what they declare, I don't think their claims can be checked, they are not free software and they are financed by advertisement.
There are free meta search engines too like Searx (we could have our own instance as part of Librem One) but from my experience the results are terrible as popular instances tend to be blocked. See https://tontonroger.org/ for a famous instance.
Edited by Adrien PlazasPlease pretty please consider moving the general discussion to https://tracker.pureos.net/T673 and limit discussion here to browser-specific concerns.
Edited by Jonas Smedegaard@heather.ellsworth I'll move that one now since it's an improvement over what we have and then we should work with PureOS on https://tracker.pureos.net/T673 .
