Perhaps the design is (unconsciously) taken from Android, where it is similar, but I think in this case it would be good to deviate from Android's design. At least it would be good to have an option to change the size (which Android doesn't allow).

but there's no 'can reach the internet' indication. @julian.sparber folded that into !401 which is think is not ideal since all of the connection types need this property, not only wifi:
- wwan can have a signal but no data connection enabled
- wifi can associate to an ap but needs a captive portal
- bluettooth network can (but usually doesn't) provide ip access
- wired connection can get an ip but be stuck behind a corporate firewall
(on top of all that is VPN tunnels)
so either each of these methods needs to indicate 'internet reachability' or we need a single indicator. I'd be good to have a design discussion here.

Usually this kind of icon is dedicated to verbs like restart, redo, reload, retry. Moreover, clicking it does not cause anything to happen, making it not possible to understand the purpose without an external source of knowledge.
Here are some concepts that might be useful for creating a better icon:
- display
- that display orientation has only 4 cardinal directions
- that display has just 2 shapes: portrait and landscape
- lock
- gravity
The clearest icon I can immediately think of is something presenting the 2 possible display shapes, and an arrow connecting them.
