User Persona: Francis Featurephone
This ticket serves to document a particular type of user in the context of their using the Librem 5 as their daily driver. It will also document current missing critical features (and their corresponding tickets).
User Persona
Francis currently owns and uses a classic "feature phone" like one of the "classic phones" listed on this page: https://www.nokia.com/phones/en_in/classic-phones. Francis has avoided a modern smartphone up to this point for a few reasons:
- They seem too complicated: too many confusing apps Francis doesn't need or know how to use
- Francis just needs basic features: phone calls, SMS, maybe a camera or web browser
- Francis is concerned about all the spying on modern phones
What's Missing
-
Touchscreen problems -- Tracked in https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/linux-next/issues/136 and https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/linux-next/issues/125 -
SMS not Updating -- Documented in chatty#271 (closed) -
Notifications -- Francis is not constantly using their phone and often puts it away for some time and returns to it later. Francis needs to be able to see any missed calls or SMS. Tracked in phosh#166 for lock screen, phosh#245 (closed) for main screen. -
Haptic motor -- Francis sometimes has their phone on vibrate. Without vibration support for notifications Francis will have to mute/power off his phone in certain environments. Tracked in Apps_Issues#60 for per-app notification settings, but no larger ticket for enabling vibration for notifications that I can find. -
Power Management -- The current battery life with the smaller capacity battery is between two and three hours. Francis is used to the very good battery life (measured in days) on a feature phone. Francis will likely need battery life above 12 hours, so Francis just has to worry about charging their phone when they are at home.
