This is a list of issues that I would like to be resolved to improve the Librem 5 usability. I will update this list over time.
I already use the Librem 5 as my primary phone. But most of the time, I'm also carrying my old Android phone with me. The first objective for now is that I only have to carry one phone.
Blocking
Here are the issues that prevent me from carrying my Android phone with me:
-
GPS does not work. My Librem 5 barely ever gets a 3D location fix. Navigation with the Librem 5 is therefore impossible. I have to take my Android phone with me for navigation. On my Android phone, I use OsmAnd+, but if I could use GNOME Maps or Pure Maps that would be perfectly fine. - One Span Authenticator, currently needed and configured for authentication at work. Maybe I can change it to my current default Authenticator application. I posted a question on the OneSpan forum to ask how to use OneSpan on the Librem 5. I did not mark this issue as a task, because this issue might be out of range for open source software to fix.
Fund your App Top 5 related
List of issues related to applications that are in the Top 5 of Fund your App.
Signal (Desktop)
My Android phone has still Signal installed and is the primary Signal device to which Signal Desktop instances are connected. That is (for now) acceptable for me because I can use the Signal Desktop flatpak which works quite well, but has some annoying issues:
-
Online keyboard stops working after selecting file to send -
Taking photos directly in Signal Desktop -
Closing current conversation
Other applications related
-
There is no Matrix client that supports end-to-end encryption available. Support for this in Fractal is in the works. FluffyChat seems to work. I'm currently testing FluffyChat in daily use.
Important usability request
-
Make the sound of the timer in GNOME clocks configurable (for pomodoros)
Small non-essential request
-
I really would like to be able to set my own user name on the Librem 5 and get totally rid of the current "purism" user.
Nice to have applications
These are applications that I have on my Android phone and for which I would like to have an equivalent on the Librem 5.
Probably not going to happen
The apps below are proprietary apps that I often use, but I expect that they will probably not be ported to the Librem 5 phone soon. Therefore, I did not mark having these apps as tasks, I list them more for reference and for information.
Note: big part of the functionality of the above mentioned radio apps is provided by Shortwave and Podcasts.
- ASN bankieren (most works also via browser)
- 9292 PT travel & route planner
- Marktplaats
Other
There are several more minor issues that I would like to see fixed. But I won't mention them here (yet), because I prefer to keep this list limited to what is most important for me now.
