I placed a similar comment somewhere else some time ago but this here is the better place. I don't think it's good to have a button for the sensor because when the sensor is needed, one will forget to turn it on again during a call and it's also cubersome while talking.
I think it's better to automatically turn the senor on and off based on whether the ear speaker is in use. This can be polled from pulseaudio/pipewire I guess (but there are D-Bus events to subscribe to, yet I didn't see the switch reported there when I tried). As a benefit by detecting the ear speaker this solution would work with any application using the ear speaker, not only telephone calls.
