My take on this is at https://source.puri.sm/guido.gunther/firmware-rs9116-nonfree/ - it builds and flashes with 5.7, avoids moving files to / and then removing them again and allows to put stuff on top of Redpine's firmware easily by having the unpacked tarball in version control.

There's still an issue that the dkms builds fails and i've only tested the flash script with one card but it seemd to do the trick.

Build problems are now fixed so (had to update another device).

@sebastian.krzyszkowiak @angus.ainslie what about this one? Parts of this still look relevant for non dkms updater (https://source.puri.sm/guido.gunther/firmware-rs9116-nonfree) but kernel 5.3.0 looks outdated.
