User persona: non tech privacy enthusiast coming over from Android and iOS
This user persona tries to correspond to a section of our L5 backers that are attracted by our userstories of:
- Respecting user privacy and freedom
- Security
- Convenience
But that are not software developers/system administrators, and are unfamiliar with protocols such as xmpp and matrix, or GNU/Linux for that matter, and expect a user experience and onboarding similar to what they are familiar with Android and iOS, and would like to use their phone without needing a command line interface to carry out tasks.

Use encrypted chat/voip applications
Note:
The last point is vague on purpose
We often get question from backers or potential backers if they can use the "encrypted chat and email" applications that they are accustomed in Android and iOS:
- Tutanota email app
- Protonmail app
- Telegram
- Signal
- Wire
- ProtonVPN
- ExpressVPN
Personally I have no desire to promote applications that:
- Break standards like IMAP, SMTP
- Do not federate
- Server side code is closed source or so badly documented that you cannot really fork it even if it is open source.
But we do and will get more questions about those services.
