Librem 14: random freeze at wake up
I'm still unsure if it's a EC problem, but here's what happens:
Since day one I experienced random freezes at wake up. I initially though it was issue with hibernation but it's actually not. A normal suspend to ram can also cause the issue. I would say the ratio is about 10/20 successful wake-ups for 1 freeze.
The symptoms are:
- UI is completely stuck
- no keyboards are working (laptop's or external)
- mouse/trackpad are not working
While this really look like a full system freeze, I'm actually able to ssh into the machine when that happens.
Every time that happens, I see 2 processes, kworker:8:0+event and kworker:0:2+event (don't quote me on the exact names, I forgot, but I can get them next time) that are both using 100% of the CPU. I was unable to kill these processes (sudo kill -9 did nothing)
The CPU temperature was at about 75C/80C and the fans never turned on, which is what makes me think of an EC issue. I have seen various people reporting such behaviors on different distros over the years and most of the people tend to think that this is due to an issue in their microcontroller and related to fans (for one guy, it was because he forgot to plug back one the fans of his machine after tinkering with it). This looks awfully similar.
When I force reboot the laptop, the fans go crazy for a minute or two cool down the machine, then everything is back to normal (until next time).
