Power-off Issues Around 40-60% Battery on 1.11
After some discussion in the Purism Matrix room, I've decided to open an issue here. I am using the latest Coreboot/EC firwmare at time of writing. EC version is 1.11_2022-10-25. I'm experiencing random hard power-offs between 40-60% battery, even under light CPU load. This morning I noticed it was very bad, where the machine shut off twice after trying to turn it on.
The laptop can even shut off under normal usage and light compile loads after it's been on and unplugged for enough time to go from 100% to ~60%.
I have a Technoethical USB Bluetooth Adapter (rebranded LogiLink product) plugged into the Librem 14, but that's it. I am using the WiFi card that comes with the Librem 14. I've noticed that, at least for me, the stability of the WiFi card seems to be correlated with the machine shutoffs. After resuming from suspend, the connection was constantly dropping and the ath9k driver was spewing out a series of errors along the lines of this in dmesg:
ath: phy72: DMA failed to stop in 10 ms AR_CR=0xffffffff AR_DIAG_SW=0xffffffff DMADBG_7=0xffffffff
ath: phy72: Chip reset failed
ath: phy72: Unable to reset channel, reset status -22
The errors with the WiFi have happened across pretty much any new kernel version (5.15 and onwards). Not sure if it happened on older 5.10 kernel. I am getting a new ath9k WiFi card tomorrow in order to make sure the card I have in the laptop now is not the issue with the WiFi stability. Not sure the WiFi issue is related, but it certainly doesn't help.
